Coaching Staff
Chris Whirlow
Chris has coached teams from 3rd grade through High School Varsity since 1992. He coached at Northgate HS in Walnut Creek from 1994-1997 and at Acalanes HS in Lafayette 1998-1999. Chris was the Head Varsity Boys coach at Campolindo HS in Moraga from 2001-2008. During his 7 seasons at the school, the Cougars compiled a 136-66 record, winning 3 DFAL league titles and 3 North Coast Section championships. He was named Contra Costa Times Coach of the Year in 2005. Chris resigned as Head Coach from Campolindo in 2008 to spend more time working with the Flight Elite program. Chris and his wife Audrey live in Oakland.
Phil Doherty
After finishing college in San Francisco, Phil taught school and was the Sports Director at St. Gabriel’s School in SF. He also served as Athletic Director at St. Stephen’s School and was the Northern California director of the Golden State High School basketball program. His teams also won 3 consecutive Golden State Basketball Championships. Phil then opened a sporting goods business and began coaching his 5 sons in CYO and AAU basketball. He also ran a Spring league sponsored by his business until he and Chris co-founded Flight Elite Basketball in 1997. Coaching youth basketball has been his passion and he's taken great pride in the success of Flight Elite Basketball.
Mark Doherty
Mark has coached in the Flight Elite Basketball program since 2006. Mark graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was the Freshman Boys basketball coach at Campolindo High 2007-2008 and Assistant Varsity coach 2008-2009. Mark is also co-director of Warriors Basketball Program. Mark lives in Moraga and is engaged to Hannah Murphy.
Yoruba Harrison
Yoruba is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and played on three state championship basketball teams in high school. Yoruba played college football at Morgan St. University in Baltimore and professionally with the Washington Redskins. Yoruba was the Assistant Varsity coach at Campolindo High School from 2003-2008. He was also in charge of Strength and Conditioning for the program. He was been working with the Flight Elite program since 2004. Yoruba lives in Newark.
Interesting Fact you might not know... As a youth, Coach Harrison was a national track star and to this day holds the International Age Record for the 400-meter run by a 9-year old.
Justin Joyner
Justin was a key player on our first Flight Elite team in 1997. He was a 4-year Varsity player at De La Salle High School and went on to play college basketball at the University of California Santa Barbara. He graduated in 2011 and is back with Flight Elite as a coach. Justin will be a great asset to Flight Elite Basketball and we are excited to have someone who has come up through the program and return to help coach our young players.
